Field Trips

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork." Psalm 19:1

  1. Parents Informed: in regard to any field trip/outing, an information sheet detailing the date, time, location, purpose, cost, and mode of transportation to and from the trip location will be provided to the parents before the trip.
  2. Permission Slip: a permission, slip which indicates that the parents are informed and consent to their child's participation in the trip, shall be obtained for each child before the child be included. The permission slip may be sent home as a detachable/returnable portion of the information sheet. The permission slip should also include an emergency medical release.
  3. Responsible Person: there shall be a single person, who is employed by Trinity Baptist Temple Academy (TBTA) and will be in attendance on the trip, designated as "In Charge" of the trip. This person must be able and willing to assume the responsibilities of being "In Charge," and must ensure that all applicable policies are met and safety is maintained.
  4. Transportation:
    • TBTA Vehicle: Whenever possible/practical the mode of transportation on any trip will be by the use of a TBTA owned and insured vehicle driven by a properly licensed employee of TBTA.
    • Personal Vehicle:
      1. When a personally owned vehicle (or vehicles) is used, a clear photocopy of the driver's current and valid driver's license and insurance card will be obtained and maintained by TBTA.
      2. The number of working safety belts safely available for use in each vehicle will determine the number of students that will be allowed to ride in the vehicle. Under no circumstances will any child be allowed to ride in a vehicle without being properly secured by a safety belt or child safety system.
  5. Recommendations: because it is the "In Charge" person's responsibility to verify that each child arrives safely at the trip location and returns safely, the following recommendations are made:
    • A distinctive uniform of a single color shall be worn by all the children in attendance. It will be at the discretion of the administration on what uniform will be worn.
    • Health and emergency contact information for each child in attendance should be physically with or immediately available to the person "In Charge."
    • Lists by vehicle of each child traveling in said vehicle should be maintained by the person "In Charge," so that if dyer events occurred it would be immediately known which children were involved.
    • A first aid kit should be included in the list of standard items taken on any trip.
    • It should be required that all the vehicles on the trip stay together as much as possible. Single vehicles should not be allowed to make stops or side trips that the others do not make. Such stops and trips expose the children to unnecessary risk in many ways and a liability risk to the driver and school. Also, unless such suggested integrity of the group of vehicles be maintained it would be difficult to quickly know if a vehicle was simply slow in traveling or had met with some difficulty requiring assistance.
    • A copy of the child protection policy of the school should be provided to each adult in attendance on the trip. Compliance with the policies should be agreed to by the adults, and a signed agreement be made by the adult and maintained by TBTA. A copy of the identification of any adult attending a trip should be made and maintained by TBTA. Predators of children exist in every socioeconomic class and position themselves so that they might have access to children. By their own design, they are not easily recognized or identified. Every Christian adult has a duty to do all things possible to protect the children from these people.
  6. Field trips pertinent to instructional objectives will be conducted for various classes during the year. Parents are encouraged to participate. Emergency Medical Release forms will accompany students on all field trips.

    Individual Pictures

Individual student pictures will be taken during the fall semester. Students must pay for the pictures prior to having them taken. Retakes will be scheduled at a later date.

    Lost & Found

Articles of clothing left in classrooms or on school grounds will be turned in at the School office. All items not claimed are given to mission projects. It is helpful if jackets, sweaters, and other expensive articles have nametags or some form of identification on them.

    Lunch

All students may bring their lunch each day, or they may purchase lunch through the school's catering service. This service provides a menu of "hot" and "cold" lunches. Menus are provided on a monthly basis. There will also be designated days (holiday, some special days) lunch will be provided by the school. Parents will be notified about these times.

    Parties

Trinity Baptist Temple Academy is responsible only for social events which (1) have been approved by the administration at least one day prior to the event, and (2) have both teachers and parents as chaperones. The emphasis is on friendship so that every student feels welcome and enjoys all Trinity Baptist Temple Academy events.

All parties in Grades K - 12 which are held during the school day must have approval a minimum of one day in advance from the administration. In grades K - 12, parties must be scheduled the last 60 minutes of the day. Birthday parties are not a part of the regular classroom routine. Birthday celebrations must be limited to refreshments only. Birthday presents are not to be given in the classroom.

    Personal Equipment

Students are prohibited from bringing sports cards and equipment, toys, radios, telephones, tape recorders, electronic games and other personal items to school unless permission is granted by the principal. (These items may be confiscated. Parents need to schedule a time to pick-up confiscated items). Beepers, cellular phones, and other communication devices are illegal and will be confiscated.

The following is the policy regarding the use of cell phones by students:

1st Offense - Parents are notified and they will come to the school and pick up the cell phone.

2nd Offense - Parents are notified and they will come to the school and pick up the cell phone and a $5.00 charge.

3rd Offense - 1 day suspension plus the loss of their privilege to bring a cell phone to school.

The students can use their phones between classes, break times and lunch. Any use of cell phones during class hours, no matter where they are is considered a violation. For example, if the time is 8:35 and they are in the gym setting it up, it is a violation.

    Soliciting of Funds

Funds may not be solicited on campus to purchase a group gift for an individual except with special permission made through the principal's office.

    Student Records

A student's school records are private and are protected from unauthorized inspection or use. Cumulative records are maintained for each student, from the time the student enters the school, until the student withdraws or graduates.

By law, both parents, whether married, separated, or divorced, have access to the records of a student who is a minor or dependent for tax purposes, as do students who are 18 years of age or older. A parent whose rights have been legally terminated will be denied access to the records if the school is given a copy of the court order terminating these rights.

The principal is custodian of all records for currently enrolled students, along with those who have withdrawn or graduated, at the assigned school. Records may be reviewed during regular school hours. The records custodian or designee will respond to reasonable requests for explanation and interpretation of the records.

    Soft Drink Machines

Soft drinks may be purchased in the cafeteria. They may not be carried into the hallways or any of the classrooms unless authorized by the administration. Soft drinks will be allowed outside the building as long as the empty containers are placed in the proper receptacle.

    Telephones

The school telephone is used exclusively for school business. If a student is ill and needs to leave school, the secretary or a teacher will call a parent. Phone messages from parents should be for emergency situations only. There could be a delay before a student returns a call because of testing, etc. Classes will not be interrupted for messages unless it is a dire emergency. This policy will be strongly enforced.

    Textbooks

Students should not lose or abuse textbooks, notebooks or supplies. Care should be given to each textbook and notebook. Drawings, artwork and other sketching are not allowed on or in textbooks or notebooks unless directed by a teacher.
