ANY STUDENT NOT IN CLASS BY 8:00 A.M. IS TARDY
Quality education requires regular school attendance. A student's level of success in school relates directly to class attendance and quality of work. Parents are encouraged to have their children in regular attendance and to support them in achieving their educational goals. School is in session for 160 days each year.
Tardiness
Classes will begin and end punctually. Any student not in class by 8:00 a.m. or before the bell each class period is TARDY. Each unexcused tardy results in an after-school detention for grades 3 - 12. A written note must be presented for an unexcused tardy resulting from: medical appointments or car trouble.
Absences
Students are expected to be in school every day that classes are in session. Parents are encouraged to ensure that students are absent due only to illness or
emergency. Parents should show their concern for instructional time by scheduling appointments and other activities during non-school hours. All students must have no more than seven (7) unexcused absences in a school year.
In case your child is absent:
- Phone the school (237-4255) no later than 9 a.m. the morning the student will be absent.
- A note signed by the parent or guardian must be brought to school the day the student returns to school, explaining the reason for the absence. Failure to bring the required note will result in an unexcused absence.
- A doctor's note is required for an absence of 3 or more days.
Absences are excused for illness, funeral service, or an emergency that prevents the student from being in school.
Each unexcused absence will result in after-school detention where the student will make up missed assignments. Three unexcused absences results in an Office Slip. Three Office Slips will result in a suspension.
Excessive Absences
Students are allowed 7 excused absences and only 7 unexcused absences. If a student receives 7 excused absences, all succeeding absences are then considered unexcused.
Make-Up Work
"And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the
peace of thy children." Isaiah 54:13
It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the teacher about work that was or will be missed during an absence. The student may make up work in the same number of days missed. Exceptions can be made in unusual circumstances.
Withdrawal
- Parents should notify the school at least three days prior to withdrawal.
- The student should plan to attend school the full day on the last day of attendance.
- Students will have their withdrawal forms completed by the office and their teacher.
- The student must return all books to the office and pay all debts to the school.
- Parents must go to the school office to obtain a statement of a cleared account.
Until all of the above are completed, the School Board does not allow any grades, transcripts or any other school records to be released to the parents or any other school.
